Alan Minnican beats GM in Spain

Apr 22 2022

Alan reports:

I have been over in Spain for a wee while and played in an open tournament in Torreviejan last week. The whole tournament was excellently organised: 250 tables for 500 players all two metres socially distanced with table covers.

Friendly Match v. Edinburgh University

Apr 1 2022

The Dragons had a bad day at the office in this friendly against our old rivals, Edinburgh Uni, on the 29th of March, losing 2-6.

Our regular Club players faltered with only Mark producing the goodies on the night. Elliot, Jim and Don all lost out in narrow games.

Our new players got some more experience with Scott Partridge showing that his club form was no fluke (beating Silvian in the Sobieski and drawing with Jim in the CC) by beating the 1666 rated Uni player.

Friendly Match v. Civil Service

Feb 26 2022

This was played on Monday 21st of February. We had the stronger team but we were missing most of our new guys. In the end it was much closer than the grading suggested.

RIP Michael Jessing

May 26 2021

Some sad news to report: Michael Jessing died on Thursday May 20th in his home in Pilrig.

Michael was one of the Dragons most active and enthusiastic members, he will be sorely missed.
He was also an established artist, you can see some of his work and his other life outside of chess here.

Michael's funeral was held on 17th June at St Michael and All Saints Episcopal Church, Brougham Street, Edinburgh.

On a temporary basis, we are currently meeting on Tuesday evenings at The Cumberland Bar (map). In normal times we have teams in the Edinburgh League, the Edinburgh Allegro, the SNCL and the Spen's Cup, and run various internal tournaments for our members.
