CC 2024/25
The club championship, organised by Jim, is an all-play-all, single round tournament with players tossing for colours before each match. The time control is league-like, either (a) 34 moves in 85m + 20m quick play or (b) game in 85m + 20s increment (as agreed by both players).

In his favourite variation against the Caro-Kann, Richard got two bishops and a passed pawn against two knights but didn't find a way to make them count and ended up losing said pawn and eventually the game.

Jim suffers another loss in the championship. A weak opening phase left Jim at a disadvantage which Elliot kept till the end.

Another CC night, Richards delight. Jim got an inferior position out of the opening and Richard K pushed home his advantage. Jim sacked a knight to turn things around but missed an intermezzo check which gave Richard the upper hand. As Richard pressed his advantage, he sacked unsoundly to finish Jim off but Jim didn't find the correct refutation. Richard got a strong position despite Jim's tactical attempts to overturn the bad situation.

We were able to take advantage of the first team home tie to get two games in. Richard K tried to relieve the pressure with an exchange sac, but it did not work.
Jim gambited in the opening and Don played solidly to get into an even middle game. Don went wrong but Jim did not take up the opportunity. As the endgame approached, Don managed to gain the advantage. It was not enough and a draw was agreed.
